About Virginia State Department of Corrections

The state of Virginia Department of Corrections is one of the largest offices inside of the state government. Why is it such a large office? Because corrections inside the state is a huge deal. It is a big undertaking that requires many people to be associated with it. As of now, there are over 12,000 employees that work for the Department of Corrections within Virginia. The Department of Corrections does not just work with those who are behind bars. They also work with those who were paroled from prison or those who were only sentenced to probation or house arrest. For the past few years, the state of Virginia has been working on ways that they can reduce their re-offending rate. As of their third year doing this, they are at a low 23.4% re-offending rate. They are priding themselves on this as it allows them to know that their programs and services that they offer these inmates are working and benefiting these inmates more than they will ever know.
