The CI Big Spring (Flightline) is short for Federal Correctional Institution Big Spring.

The Federal Correctional Institution Big Spring started operation near the end of the 1980 Olympics, but the facility did not see their first inmates for a few months after.

Then in 2010, the CI Big Spring (Flightline) celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of their opening. Only a few years later in 2016, the Federal Correctional Institution was one of the first facilities to try out the pilot Pell Grant program, which would allow inmates to take college classes thanks to the Howard Community College.

The CI Big Spring (Flightline) is a medium-security federal prison nestled in Essex County, New York.

Over the years, the Federal Bureau of Prison started receiving many complaints about the living conditions that were at the CI Big Spring (Flightline).

If you know either the inmate’s number of the inmate’s name, you can easily locate them within in seconds in the database.

The database is full of identifying information on the inmate. Keep in mind, that the database may not display the most up to date information if something recently changed. The database is updated on a regular basis though.

Sending a Mail/Care Package

All mail that is sent to the CI Big Spring (Flightline) will be opened by a correctional officer.

Even legal mail is opened by a correctional officer, but the inmate will be present for that opening.

All mail is then examined and checked for safety. If contraband is found in the mail, it will be properly disposed of.

All mail should be made out to the inmate and the inmate number on the envelope as well.

Sending Money

While you may think that an inmate in the Federal Correctional Institution does not need money, you would be highly incorrect. They will need money. While the CI Big Spring (Flightline) oversees giving inmates their three meals a day, inmates will need hygiene products and other items that they may want.

They can purchase these said items from the commissary. The commissary will have all their needs.

You can deposit money through Western Union, sending a money order, or MoneyGram.

Phone calls

Inmates at the CI Big Spring (Flightline) can have the chance to call you using the telephones in the common areas. These telephones will require them to have money in their account to make these calls.

Inmates will be able to call home for 15-minutes. The facility has capped inmates at 300 minutes a month between the months of January to October. The facility will give inmates an additional 100 minutes a month in November and December.


Inmates at the CI Big Spring (Flightline) can have visits from approved visitors. To be on the approved list, you will need to fill out your visitor application and wait to hear back.

Once you hear back, you will be allowed to visit on the weekends (Saturday & Sunday) between 8:30 am to 3 pm.
