About Tennessee Department of Corrections

The Department of Corrections in Tennessee came from a model from other states within the United States. They wanted to see what was working for other states, what they did, how they operated, and how they could improve upon that. You should note that the Department of Corrections within Tennessee was not fully developed until the mid-1990s. Yes, as you can see it took this department many, many years trying to develop the perfect department in which they can be proud of. Since the department fully developed, the Department of Corrections has been having to re-certify their department every three years through the American Corrections Association. Throughout the next few decades, you should note that the department has not stopped with their growth. The department has been growing ever since. They’ve grown enough where they have had to consistently hold many people throughout their facilities and had a minor issue with the overcrowding. Therefore, now the Department of Corrections in Tennessee is starting to use sentences of parole and probation a lot more than they used to. All to try and eliminate these overcrowding issues.
