The FMC Lexington is short for Lexington Federal Detention Center. The FMC Lexington is an administrative federal prison in the heart of Lexington, Kentucky.

The FMC Lexington is home to adult male and adult female inmates who are over the age of 18.

As of right now, the FMC Lexington is currently housing 1447 inmates. What is neat about the FMC Lexington is that the facility is home to ALL security levels.

The FMC Lexington was designed to house up to 1447 inmates at one time.

The FMC Lexington officially opened in October of 1999. The FMC Lexington is around 300,000 square feet. The facility covers 7 floors. The housing units are on the fourth, fifth, and sixth floor. Each of these housing floor units can comfortably house around 248 inmates.

You will need to log on to the Federal Bureau of Prisons site. You can search for an inmate in the roster by their name or their identification number. Most people will search for the inmate by their name.

Sending a Mail/Care Package

One way you can keep in touch with an inmate is to send them letters. Letters can be handwritten, and you can stuff them with some family photos.

When sending mail, please do not use the following items:

  • Staples

  • Stickers

  • Crayons

  • Drawings

  • Glitter

Please when writing your letter only use pencil or pen, nothing else or the letter will not be accepted.

Keep in the back of your mind that everything you say in your letter will be read by a correctional officer at the FMC Lexington before it is officially given to the inmate it is addressed to.

Sending Money

Inmates may ask you for money from time to time. If an inmate asks you for money while they are in the FMC Lexington, you will have a couple of different options.

If the inmate says they need the money as soon as possible, you will want to use either Western Union or MoneyGram service. This service will deposit the money into the inmate’s account MUCH faster. However, the only downside is that there are fees associated with these methods.

Phone calls

Inmates in the FMC Lexington will have access to telephones daily from 7 am to 10 pm. They can make phone calls to their loved ones during these hours if there is not a prison count going on or the facility is in lockdown.

You will need to ensure that you put money on the phone account, so the inmate can make these phone calls.

Visitation here at the FMC Lexington are held on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during these days they will either have two or three shifts for visitation.
