About Illinois Department of Corrections

The Illinois Department of Corrections was officially created back in 1970. The Department of Corrections has a pretty extensive history. Because prior to the Department of Corrections being formed, they already had correctional buildings, however, after the formation of the DOC these correctional facilities were made into state facilities. They also even added in some adolescent facilities, more parole offices, and even sprinkled in some probation offices as well. Then in 1974, the Department of Corrections finally created their very own first building that was going to be used for their staff and rehabilitation needs. It would not be until July of 2006, when the state of Illinois decided it was time that they add in a department that only specializes with their adolescent group. This is when the adolescents finally had a department all to themselves to help better serve them and their families. Security here in the Department of Corrections in Illinois is the main concern for anyone and everyone involved. Their correctional buildings are riddled with the latest technology to ensure that they know everything that is going on inside the facilities.
