About Connecticut Department of Corrections

The Connecticut Department of Corrections is the organization that answers to the public about their concerns about the state-operated facilities, probation programs, or the parole program. The Department of Corrections oversees 18 state-operated facilities within the state lines. The DOC main office is nestled in Wethersfield, CT. The main and first correctional facility within the state of Connecticut is known as the Old Negate Jail. The Old Negate Jail started its operation in 1705. The state of Connecticut would use this facility during the Progressive War. Since the state of Connecticut abolished capital punishment law in 2015, all inmates who were on death row has gone to the Northern Correctional facility. These inmates have been in this facility since 1995. However, prior to this time, all executions were taken place in the Osborn facility.
