About Alaska Department of Corrections

The organization known as the Alaska Department of Corrections is a part of the state government. This department specializes in the corrections side of things such as parole, probation, and rehabilitation within the prison system. As of today, the current commander of the department is Mr. Dignitary Williams. Williams can be in the head offices either in Anchorage or Juneau. This entire department came into place back in the beginning of January of 1959. Before then, the state of Alaska did not have any sort of corrections department except for the federal side of things. Then in 2005, the great state of Alaska had a report that stated that the department had nearly 30% of their offenders in facilities that were in a facility situated in Florence, Arizona. This facility was under the direct operation of the CCA. But then just a small four years later in 2009, the DOC in Alaska ended up moving those offenders that were in a facility in Florence, Arizona to a facility that was in Eloy, Arizona. But, then in July of 2012, the DOC was able to transfer those same offenders back to the Alaska state and into a facility within the territory.
